Rules for Character creation and interaction

The type/race of character that can be played here within reason is a diverse list, and we do not require character cards except on characters that are of a race not included here or would be considered boss level (after you talk with us about it first). However, having said that, it is expected that anyone playing here knows how to balance a character.  Your character should have weaknesses to balance out the power.( For example, a magician needs a source for its power. It can be trinkets worn, components for spells, innate abilities and so on.  Everything has a limit, you can only wear so many items, you can only carry so many components, you can only hold so many thoughts or have so much energy.) Please use common sense and common courtesy in regards to other players. We do not have pre-determined meters here, as this is freeform roleplay. Dice can be used to settle anything that can’t be resolved through turn based role play. Any issues that arise which cannot be handled between players should be brought to an admin and should not lead to OOC drama. No one wants or likes OOC drama in their RP.

Huge sized avatars such as dragons, giants, whales, etc. that would not fit into a city will not be allowed without admin approval, nor will heavily scripted avatars of ANY size. It is a homestead. Fully anthropomorphic avatars will be addressed on a case by case basis. Most werewolf avatars will be allowed, as well as other types of furred bipeds, as long as they are not blatantly cartoonish in appearance. An example is something like bringing a bipedal pink furry bunny with huge anime eyes is likely going cause an admin to talk to you about some avatar changes. To further this explanation, anything directly mimicking anime, cartoons or living artwork that has little depth of texture or realism is frowned on or not allowed.

Also, if you need help creating your character, the admins will be glad to assist you as we have with many others. We are not here to restrict or nay-say your creativity but we as admins have to draw a line somewhere to set some limits. We expect a certain sense of realism to the rp so that all can immerse into the rp and enjoy. If we make comments toward your avatar, please stop all reactions for a moment and realize we are likely asking questions or making comments others will ask about your avatar. We enjoy seeing diversity, but we ask you to keep a sense of realism.  This means, keep your anatomy to something realistically possible without plastic surgery or transplants that are not possible outside of modern technological advancements.  Unless your character is deeply magical, if you have a human sized avatar and body parts that should fit on something 3 times larger, chances are something is not going to work properly. Male anatomy requires blood to fill it, female anatomy is very heavy at larger sizes, excessive weight wears on a skeleton. So, while we would like for you to have your creativity, please have a reason and ability built into your character for it beyond a sexual kink. Being ‘part’ something does not give enough reason since many hybrids with unbalanced sizes do not survive infancy without some form of magic or science.

When in doubt in regards to an avatar’s appearances please feel free to contact the admins.  Any questions, concerns or problems should be brought to Niccia Straaf and Siobhan Bauhaus. If neither are online, please send an offline message, as answers can be obtained via that manner.

Races allowed in Mooncrest Vale

The rankings of the following races are meant to indicate how difficult a particular race is to play as well as the likelihood of having an application for said race be approved. Less experienced role-players are advised to begin with a common race at least to begin with. Races not appearing on the list will be approved on a case by case basis, though full racial information must be submitted to the admins before bringing that race into the sim.

Some races have further lore information at the bottom of the page.

Players are allowed more than one character per account. However, we ask that you actively play one character before taking on a new character.

--** Non-typical Racial traits and abilities MUST be listed on your application. Details on major magics and abilities should be loosely described, minor abilities and magics can be simply listed.**--

--Common Races--
Humans
Primals (see below for local lore)
Elves
Drow
Orcs (see below for local lore)
Fae (Seelie/Unseelie, etc - please make sure to read the information on how Underhill works in MC via the Lore section)
Trolls (see below for local lore)
Goblins
Dwarves
Halflings
Basic Undead (zombies, ghouls, ghosts, etc., excludes Vampires and Liches, see below)

**Cross breeds of humanoid races are possible, particularly among the Common Races(with the exception of undead that cannot procreate) Each application for an uncommon cross breed will be considered based on the background submitted.

--Uncommon Races--
Shapeshifters- These are the beings that have more than one form. Generally when a shapeshifter intermingles with another species outside their own traits are thinned if not eliminated with each generation. Werecreatures, Bastets, Merfolk with land and water forms, any character that does not stay in an anthropomorphic state all fall into the classification of shapeshifter. Magical shapeshifting due to potions or spells does not qualify as a race.
Lycanthropes (See lore below)
Vampires (See lore below)
Bastets
Centaurs
Faun
Ogres
Satyr
Merfolk
Dryads
Naga
Avian (including avariel and harpies)

--Rare Races-- (allowance will be decided on a case by case basis)
( Rare Races MUST have limits of the characters powers in such a way as to keep them in line with other heroic characters. Please don’t make us admin you into balance)

Demons
Angels
Astrals
Elementals
Dragons
Giants

**For abnormally large avatars please talk to an admin before submitting an application for these as size and relativity are a primary factor. Please keep in mind that ANY avatar larger than max-height avatars will not always fit within buildings.

--Lore Notes--
These lore notes are by the admins to simplify the playing of some races in the World of Lymurid- Mooncrest Vale RP.  This is to give some structure to the plethora of lores and genres out there and allow both creativity and cohesiveness that allows players to co-exist without lore conflicts causing OOC drama.

'Greenskins'-
Orcs, Trolls, Ogres, Goblins, ‘greenskins’- In Mooncrest Vale things are a little different for these locals.  When the geography changed in the Vale, these folks were trapped in a bowl with limited exits and effectively surrounded by the forest.  Having already been somewhat secluded in the past this looming presence of the forest and the nearby town has caused a shift in their thinking. Those who were left after the flooding and upheaval of the land have begun to realize trade and craft, interaction and growth are better than dwindling into nothingness. There is an uneasy truce with the locals but so new is this thinking that many still revert to old ways and habits. Their respect for their dead gives reason for many skulls to be found around their lands, steady reminders of their past.

Primals-
Primals are human, though they have interbred with others such as orcs and elves to make some half-breeds. It has less  to do with race, however, and more that  this group of people have chosen to shun modernity, refusing to visit the cities around them, even to a point  saying the elves in their elaborate houses have lost their way with the earth. Primals hunt and trap, fish and make everything they need. They seldom wear anything that is not leather or homespun cloth and though they will trade for metal weapons such as spear points and arrowheads, most prefer their bone, stone and wooden weapons. These weapons are not to be smirked at though, for many a warrior has thought to best a skilled Primal for having ‘lesser’ weapons only to find the wood does not break and their bone knives are just as sharp as steel. The local elves and the druids are certain it has much to do with their shamanic ancestral beliefs as beneath their small village sits a glowing cave that they will fight to the death to defend, believing it is the wellspring of their ancestors.  Primals do NOT go into the city. They are not enemies of the ‘greenskins’ and are innately edgy around the fae. A Primal NEVER takes more than they or their immediate family need.

Vampires-
These creatures have a wide array of different abilities and characteristics, but there are a few that hold true to all vampires in Mooncrest Vale rp. All vampires drink blood, they must do so on a regular basis whether this is role-played directly or not.
A vampire's bite alone is not enough to turn a person, to be turned a person must be drained completely of blood and then deliberately given some of the vampire's blood in exchange. If this happens the character will die and be reborn the following night as a vampire (this requires a character change submission to the admins). Players not wishing to become a vampire or of a race who cannot cross over simply die and are returned to life in the normal way.
Vampires are burned by direct sunlight and fire, they will avoid direct contact with both by any means necessary. Vampires are not affected by divine symbols (crosses etc) but rather by the faith of a person wielding them.
A vampire may return to mortal life, resuming their original race and appearance. However to do so requires a grueling quest of self change on the part of the character (ask an admin for specific details).

Werewolves/lycanthropes-
Lycanthropes are formed when a race is bitten and becomes infected with a disease called lycanthropy. This grants the ability for shapeshifting and is seldom truly controlled.

There are two classifications of werewolves in Mooncrest Vale: garou and lycans (short for lycanthrope). How these two types of werewolves work in MC is defined below.
Garou are born with the ability to shapeshift, and their inner wolf is genetic, not a disease. When garou werewolves mate, their children stand a strong chance of also being wolves, though they will not reveal this  until they hit puberty and gain the ability to change forms. This is also possible if a werewolf mates with a non-werewolf partner, though in that case there is a 50% chance the child will be normal.

The second form of werewolves in MC is a lycan and because of the disease infecting them they struggle to maintain human form, and often fight their primal and more base self whether in human or in wolf form. Lycanthropy is passed from a werewolf of any type to another via biting, though it is a deliberate action and a simple bite will not suffice. The victim of such a bite will be unable to heal the wound until the next full moon at which point they will turn into a werewolf. This method of changing over is so violent the victim almost always becomes wild and uncontrollable, these are the monsters behind the horror stories told late at night.
When a character is bitten and contracts lycanthropy, a cure may be administered by a powerful healer if they can collect the necessary ingredients (speak to an admin if you need input) a character who rejects the change or is of a race or class that cannot change simply dies and may be resurrected as normal. Lycanthropy itself is also reversible though after the first change it requires far more skill and potent magics (for more information ask an admin).
Garou are often more balanced creatures, their lives and social structure most akin to a pack of wolves. Lycans are often the monsters of legends, losing control to their inner beast. Some Lycans do learn to control themselves and become a part of Garou society, it is not impossible though difficult to resist the urges of the moon and the beast.
Similar to wolf lycanthropes, other animals such as felines, boars, bears, and so on have the same traits. A character is either born with the ability to shapeshift or they are bitten and become lycanthropic, thus struggling with their animal side.

***Bipedal furred creatures are welcomed on a case-by-case basis largely dependent on their appearances but also their potential hybridization. We strive for a measure of realism in Mooncrest Vale, so characters, furred and otherwise looking too cartoonish/anime will be requested to be changed until they are less unrealistic. We are aware that it is a fantasy environment, but one must understand there has to be some limitations.  A few suggested sources of ‘non cartoonish’ furred bipeds would be Jomo, 1st Act, PixelPuss felines, Niramyth.

We request that people do not bring neko -style (human skin with animal parts) creatures. This means we ask that you try to have non human skin, such as a matching tone to your animal parts.
